Great potential for green hydrogen at sea
The potential for wind energy at sea in Germany is huge: the new spatial development plan (ROP) offers the opportunity to build up to 60 gigawatts of offshore wind power capacity. This is the result of the latest study by the Offshore Wind Energy Foundation. Managing Director Karina Würtz presented the study to Olaf Lies, Lower Saxony's Minister for the Environment and Energy, at a press conference on September 22, 2021.

From the current 1,500 wind turbines at sea, the number could grow to up to 10,000 at today's wind turbine output. This could not only meet the increasing demand for green electricity, but also enable the production of green hydrogen at sea on an industrial scale, according to the analysis of demand and potential for the production of green hydrogen from offshore wind energy in Germany.
