Under the title "Industry on the road to climate neutrality", Leuphana University of Lüneburg and the Climate Protection and Energy Agency of Lower Saxony (KEAN) are hosting the ninth Energy Forum on September 8, 2021.

Germany and the other member states of the European Union have set themselves the goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2050. Major efforts are needed in industry to achieve this. Pressure is also coming from financing banks and other financial market players. It is clear what is technically necessary, including the expansion of renewable energies, electrification and greater energy efficiency, the use of (green) hydrogen and the strengthening of the circular economy and material efficiency.

The event provides a forum for discussing the legal, economic, technical and social issues associated with the transformation of industry towards climate neutrality with scientists and practitioners.

Hydrogen lighthouse projects in Lower Saxony

In the afternoon from 14:00, the Lower Saxony Hydrogen Network will present and discuss lighthouse projects with representatives from industry and highlight the importance of green hydrogen for Lower Saxony. As an energy state, Lower Saxony is ideally placed to become a leader in the production and supply of green hydrogen. Two current major projects from the steel industry and wastewater treatment illustrate the importance of hydrogen for the region and the transformation of the economy.

The event is supported by the cooperation partners Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund (DGB), the Unternehmerverbände Niedersachsen (UVN) and the ECOLOG Institute for Social-Ecological Research and Education.
