Three new HyLand hydrogen regions in Lower Saxony

The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) has announced a further 30 winners in the BMVI initiative "HyLand - Hydrogen Regions in Germany", marking the start of the second round. These include three regions in Lower Saxony: Helmstedt, Ostfriesland and Bad Bentheim.

The Helmstedt district has been recognized as a HyExpert and is to be developed into a location for renewable energies and "green" hydrogen. The companies Avacon and EEW are ready to invest in new projects with local partners. Dr. Alexander Goebel from the Helmstedt economic region on the project: "The Helmstedt lignite mining region was the first of the four German lignite mining regions to completely phase out lignite-fired power generation with the closure of the Buschhaus power plant at the end of last year. Together with the owners of the power plant site, Helmstedter Revier GmbH, a subsidiary of Mitteldeutsche Braunkohlengesellschaft mbH, and the Helmstedt-based companies Avacon AG and Energy from Waste GmbH, the aim now is to develop the old energy site into an energy site for sustainable and future-oriented technologies. Work is already in full swing to establish a green energy hub." The project will receive 400,000 euros for the development of a detailed concept.

The two HyStarter regions of Ostfriesland and Bad Bentheim will receive one year of technical and organizational support in the development of a regionally tailored hydrogen concept and the formation of a network for local hydrogen players.

The funds come from the National Innovation Program for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP2).
